Radiofrequency/Microwave Radiation has been known for several decades as being toxic.
Back in 1974 WHO mandated 60 scientists and issued a 40-report, 380-page, book showing this
toxicity.

It’s titled: “Biologic Effects and Health Hazards of Microwave Radiation – WHO
International Symposium Research Agreement No. 05-609-04 – 1974”

This document does not show on the WHO website today. Why is the WHO denying this information now?

HIGHLIGHTS

• Certain aspects of cell phone use negatively affect semen quality.
• Internet use via cellular networks has become an important risk to semen quality.
• The use of 3G or more advanced networks might have less damage to human sperm.
• Recruiting subjects from a general population makes the study typical and relevant.

ABSTRACT

Epidemiological and experimental evidence for detrimental effects of cell phone use on semen quality is still equivocal. And that recruiting participants from infertility clinic not from general population may raise the possibility of a selection bias. To investigate effects of cell phone use on semen parameters in a general population,We screened and documented the cell phone use information of 794 young men from the Male Reproductive Health in Chongqing College students (MARHCS) cohort study in 2013, followed by 666 and 568 in 2014 and 2015, respectively. In the univariate regression analyses, we found that the daily duration of talking on the cell phone was significantly associated with decreased semen parameters, including sperm concentration [β coefficient = − 6.32% per unit daily duration of talking on the cell phone (h); 95% confidence interval (CI), − 11.94, − 0.34] and total sperm count (− 8.23; 95% CI, − 14.38, − 1.63) in 2013; semen volume (− 8.37; 95% CI, − 15.93, − 0.13) and total sperm count (− 16.59; 95% CI, − 29.91, − 0.73) in 2015]. Internet use via cellular networks was also associated with decreased sperm concentration and total sperm counts in 2013 and decreased semen volume in 2015. Multivariate analyses were used to adjust for the effects of potential confounders, and significant negative associations between internet use and semen parameters remained. Consistent but nonsignificant negative associations between talking on the cell phone and semen parameters persisted throughout the three study years, and the negative association was statistically significant in a mixed model that considered all three years of data on talking on the cell phone and semen quality. Our results showed that certain aspects of cell phone use may negatively affect sperm quality in men by decreasing the semen volume, sperm concentration, or sperm count, thus impairing male fertility.

Background and aim: A rise in exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) in the general population in the last two decades (e.g. from wi-fi and mobile phone networks) coincides with a rise in prevalence of a broad array of health symptoms; often of allergic/asthmatic/oversensitivity character. Evidence is building up indicating that EMF exposure indeed is the cause of this increase, but possible harmful effects of EMF may present differently in different people and adaptation may occur. The aim of the present pilot study is to survey the possible associations between various common EMF exposure sources and a broad array of symptoms and signs. Moreover, this study will test the usefulness of a questionnaire constructed for the purpose and provide data to design larger future studies.

Methods: An electronic questionnaire asking into EMF exposure sources and subjective symptoms was posted to special interest websites. For five EMF exposure sources (mobile phone, wi-fi, occupational exposure, energy-saving lightbulbs, mobile phone towers) we assessed the association with each of seventeen health problems (e.g. sleep, cognitive, eye problems) in logistic regression models, adjusted for sex, age, urbanicity and smoking status.

Results: Sixty people responded. Significant associations were seen for a nearby mobile phone tower (more cognitive, head, eye, body and skin problems) and for constant wi-fi presence (less cognitive, eye, mouth, skin, lung and immune system problems).

Conclusions: Several significant associations were found in this broad pilot survey of possibly EMF-related health problems. Mobile phone towers seem to be the most problematic of the various EMF exposure sources; this association may well be confounded by attribution bias. The counterintuitive association of fewer symptoms with increased presence of wi-fi may be explained by selection and adaptation since the questionnaire was electronic, and people can shift to cable-based internet at home when they claim wi-fi is affecting them.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:

The aim of this study was to investigate the health effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) among female operators of plastic welding machines.

METHODS:

We examined 180 female operators in shoe factories as the exposed group, and 349 female workers from nearby supermarkets as the unexposed group.

RESULTS:

The mean radiation levels in the vicinity of the welding machines ranged from 51.3 to 368.9 V/m. The prevalence of neurovegetative symptoms increased with higher EMFs exposures (P < 0.05). The prevalence of menstrual disorder was 12.0% in the unexposed group, but was 26.8% and 33.8% in low and high-exposure groups, respectively (P < 0.01). Exposure-response relationships were found between cumulate exposure and neurovegetative symptoms and menstrual disorder (P < 0.05). Serum progesterone (P4) was significantly lower in the exposed groups (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONS:

EMFs exposure was associated with adverse health effects, including neurovegetative symptoms, menstrual disorder, and low level of P4.

ABSTRACT

Studies on weak man-made radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF) affecting animal magnetoreception aim for a better understanding of the reception mechanism and also point to a new phenomenon having possible consequences in ecology and environmental protection. RF impacts on magnetic compasses have recently been demonstrated on migratory birds and other vertebrates. We set out to investigate the effect of RF on the magnetic orientation of the Antarctic krill speciesGondogeneia antarctica, a small marine crustacean widespread along the Antarctic littoral line. Here, we show that having been released under laboratory conditions,G. antarcticaescaped in the magnetically seaward direction along the magnetic sea-land axis (Y-axis) of the home beach. However, the animals were disoriented after being exposed to RF. Orientation was lost not only in an RF of a magnetic flux density of 20 nT, as expected according to the literary data, but even under the 2 nT originally intended as a control. Our results extend recent findings of the extraordinary sensitivity of animal magnetoreception to weak RF fields in marine invertebrates.

ABSTRACT

Concerns have been raised about the possible biological effects of nonionizing radiation since at least the late 1950s with respect to radar, other radio, and microwave sources. More recent concerns have arisen about the potential effects of low-intensity fields, including lowfrequency fields from the electric power generating, transmission, and distribution system and the devices it energizes, as well as intermediate, radio-frequency (RF), and higher-frequency radiation from devices such as cell phones, broadcast antennas, Wi-Fi, security monitors, and so forth. These are concerns about the direct effects of radiation on humans or other organisms. They are distinct from the electromagnetic compatibility issues that concern interference by the fields from one device with the function of another, though human health can be indirectly affected by electromagnetic interference with the function of medical devices, including hospital equipment or pacemakers.

Does Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Originate from Nocebo Responses? Indications from a Qualitative Study

[Quando viene effettuato uno studio di qualità sulla EHS, l’EFFETTO NOCEBO viene SMENTITO.

Da notare quanto segue:

“Overall, symptoms appear before subjects start questioning effects of EMF on their health, which is not consistent with the hypothesis that IEI-EMF originates from nocebo responses to perceived EMF exposure.”

ABSTRACT

Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance attributed to Electromagnetic Fields (IEI-EMF) is a condition in which symptoms are attributed to electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure. As electro-hypersensitive (EHS) people have repeatedly been observed, during provocation trials, to report symptoms following perceived rather than actual exposure, the hypothesis has been put forward that IEI-EMF originates from psychological mechanisms, especially nocebo responses. This paper examines this hypothesis, using data from a qualitative study aimed at understanding how EHS people come to regard themselves as such. Forty self-diagnosed EHS people were interviewed. A typified model of their attribution process was then elaborated, inductively, from their narratives. This model is linear and composed of seven stages: (1) onset of symptoms; (2) failure to find a solution; (3) discovery of EHS; (4) gathering of information about EHS; (5) implicit appearance of conviction; (6) experimentation; (7) conscious acceptance of conviction. Overall, symptoms appear before subjects start questioning effects of EMF on their health, which is not consistent with the hypothesis that IEI-EMF originates from nocebo responses to perceived EMF exposure. However, such responses might occur at the sixth stage of the process, potentially reinforcing the attribution. It remains possible that some cases of IEI-EMF originate from other psychological mechanisms.

Weather radars and health problems

17 March 2016 – “Omega News”, by Georgiy Ostroumov, Ph.D., microwaves, Finland

Weather radars send directional pulses of microwave radiation, on the order of a microsecond long. Between each pulse, the radar serves as a receiver as it listens for return signals from particles in the air. The duration of the “listen” cycle is on the order of a millisecond, which is a thousand times longer than the pulse duration.

The radar uses a series of typical angles (elevation angles of an antenna). After each scanning rotation, antenna elevation is changed. This scenario will be repeated on many angles to scan all the volume of air around the radar within the maximum range. Usually, this scanning strategy is completed within 5 to 10 minutes to have data within 15 km above ground and 250 km distance of the radar. The radars use angles ranging from 0.3 to 25 degrees.

Due to such angles (about 0.3 degrees) the radiation of the radar can easily penetrate into many living houses. Unfortunately in many cases there are no reasons to elevate antenna beam over the living houses because static obstacles often cannot disturb work of the radar. It is very bad that a big town may be the “static obstacle” too.
On the contrary, rotating blades of wind turbines often lead to essential mistakes for the radar. The wind turbines having appeared in Kotka (Finland), the antenna beam of the radar was elevated. At least power density(exposure) was reduced from 300 mW/m2 to 20 mW/m2 at fixed measurement place.

I have a friend who suffers even from weak microwave radiation. In this connection she is forced to live far from typical sources of the radiation. Some times ago she said that she began suffering from some new source of the radiation. When she moved to live into low place her negative symptoms disappeared. Unfortunately this place was not suitable for living especially in winter.
About the same time the newest weather radar started working. Distance of the radar to her home was about 100 km. She wanted to know whether the radar was cause for her suffering. Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Finland (STUK) answered that maximum exposure of the radiation from the radar was 0.3 % of the national limit ( limit of the ICNIRP). This response was unable to help her. Thus she had to leave home to another place (often only, a caravan in winter forest).

Whether exposure of the radiation from the radar can lead to health problems if person lives at distance about 100 km to the radar ? To answer this question we need a reliable limit for long-term exposure of the radiation. I think that nowadays only the limit1(0.1) mW/m2 for long-term  exposure worth using ((Resolution 1815, Parliamentary Assembly, Council of Europe,http://assembly.coe.int/nw/xml/XRef/Xref-XML2HTML-en.asp?fileid=17994&).
I could not help calculating.
If radiation power of the radar is 250 kW(peak) and antenna gain is 40 dB,  the power density can be 20 mW/m2 at 100 km to the radar. Thus, the radiation might be detrimental, even if the distance is over 100 km from the radar!
How about 0.3 % ? It means “only” 30000 mW/m2. Here is no mistake in my calculation. The ICNIRP has permitted special limit for the radiation from the radar in thousand times as much as usual limit!
I suppose the most typical symptom from such radar can be tinnitus because the duration of the “listen” cycle is on the order of a millisecond.
Thus, if a country is using a network of these radars, health problems are possible for whole population of the country.

Appeal by French doctors and healthcare professionals “For the recognition of electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS)” – PDF

Appeal by French doctors and healthcare professionals “For the recognition of electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS)”

We, doctors, scientists, and healthcare professionals,

Given the appeal of Freiburg launched in 2002 by doctors and healthcare professionals, we have observed during our consultations, the terrific increase of serious and chronic illnesses among our patients, such as:

Detected symptoms following the use of mobile phone:

– Pains and/or heat at ear level
– Sensitivity disorders with Dysesthesia cases (numbing, burning and tingling) that can be felt at face, hair or arm levels.

Progressively and then permanently:

– headaches, associated with pains and stiffness in the neck
– Tinnitus and hyperacusis
– Visual disturbances
– Sensitivity anomalies linked to feelings of discomfort
– Skin lesions with burning feeling and itching.
– Muscle disorders (myalgia, spasms, fasciculation) as well as articular disorders
– Cognitive disorders

At a second stage:

– Onset of acute cognitive disorders (attention deficit and amnesia)
– Digestive and urinary disorders
– Insomnia, chronic fatigue and potentially depressive tendency.

Eventually, in the absent of a proper treatment, irreversible anatomical lesions can be observed.

Regarding children: Headaches, sleeping disorders as well as dyslexia, attention deficit, memory loss and behaviour disorders

Given that we are well aware of the social environment and the habits of our patients, we often observe time and space correlations between the onset of these aforementioned disorders and the exposure or the increase of the exposure to electromagnetic waves in cases such as:

– The building-up of mobile telephony base stations close to the living or working places
– Intensive use of mobile phone
– The use of cordless telephone systems at home or at work

The Brussels International Scientific Declaration on Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, signed in May 2015 by various scientists and healthcare professionals from all over the world, specifies that biological markers have been observed on patients suffering from EHS, markers which enable to identify the existence of debilitating pathologies.
It is high time the French health authorities recognise these pathologies.

In France, the Toulouse court in charge of disability related disputes ruled that woman was unable to work due to the debilitating effect of mobile and wifi waves. It is a first step but political will is still missing.
Even if there still is a scientific controversy on this issue, everything has to be done to look after these patients. These patients do exist and their suffering should be alleviated. Political efforts have to be made in order to inform the public opinion on the health impacts of electromagnetic waves.

We, therefore, solemnly call on the French State and more particularly on the Minister for Health, Marisol Touraine, to consider the impact of electromagnetic waves as a first concern for public health and do to her possible to take into account the problems the aforementioned patients have to cope with.

To be consequent with the precautionary principle, we called on our government to take all reasonable measures to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields, especially for children in schools.

In-depth and independent researches should be carried out and “white zones” (EHS sanctuaries) should be granted to people suffering from EHS.

Moreover, the decisions made by several departmental handicapped homes (MDPH) to recognise EHS as a disability should be followed by all other MDPH on the French territory.

Habits of cell phone usage and sperm quality – does it warrant attention?

ABSTRACT

Male infertility constitutes 30-40% of all infertility cases. Some studies have shown a continuous decline in semen quality since the beginning of the 20th century. One postulated contributing factor is radio frequency electromagnetic radiation emitted from cell phones. This study investigates an association between characteristics of cell phone usage and semen quality. Questionnaires accessing demographic data and characteristics of cell phone usage were completed by 106 men referred for semen analysis. Results were analysed according to WHO 2010 criteria. Talking for ≥1 h/day and during device charging were associated with higher rates of abnormal semen concentration (60.9% versus 35.7%, P < 0.04 and 66.7% versus 35.6%, P < 0.02, respectively). Among men who reported holding their phones ≤50 cm from the groin, a non-significantly higher rate of abnormal sperm concentration was found (47.1% versus 11.1%). Multivariate analysis revealed that talking while charging the device and smoking were risk factors for abnormal sperm concentration (OR = 4.13 [95% CI 1.28-13.3], P < 0.018 and OR = 3.04 [95% CI 1.14-8.13], P < 0.027, respectively). Our findings suggest that certain aspects of cell phone usage may bear adverse effects on sperm concentration. Investigation using large-scale studies is thus needed.
