US government’s premiere test program finds cancer risk from cell phone radiation: a game-changing global wake-up call

19th June 2016 – “blog.oup.com”, by Devra Davis

Have you heard that cell phones cause cancer, then they don’t, then they do? Confused enough yet? Let me break it down for you. Contrary to some claims, the new US government study by the National Toxicology Program (NTP) is hardly a shot in the dark or a one-off event. With this largest best-conducted animal study, we now have three different studies within the past six years where animals develop some of the same cancers from cell phone radiation as people. In the NTP study, male rats exposed to wireless radiation develop more unusual highly malignant brain tumors—gliomas—as well as very rare tumors of the nerves around and within the heart—schwannomas.

Rodent studies are the gold standard for testing chemicals. In fact, as the American Cancer Society notes, the NTP study comes from a world-renowned test program that involved twice the usual number of animals and triple the typical number of independent reviews of the pathology data. The NTP review process included blinded evaluations by statisticians and pathologists who did not even know the name of the ‘test agent’ they were examining.

An op-ed from the New York Times by pediatrician Aaron Carroll questions the relevance of these animal studies for humans. Chairman of Pediatrics at Hadassah Hospital Jerusalem, Dr. Eitan Kerem, does not agree, stating that “Such findings [of cancers in a test drug] in the pharma industry may prevent further developing of a drug until safety is proven, and until the findings of this study are confirmed parents should be aware of the potential hazards of carcinogenic potential of radiofrequency radiation.”

Prof. Eitan appreciates that every agent known to cause cancer in people, also produces it in animals when well studied. More recently, studies have found significant brain changes in cell-phone exposed Zebra fish which also share important properties with humans. If we fail to heed these studies and insist on more human data, we become the bodies of evidence.

Not a single one of the NTP rat controls developed these rare brain cancers or schwannomas of the heart. Yes it is true that historical controls used in other studies have had a few brain cancers, so why should we not compare these results with that? In scientific research, we take great care to subject controls and exposed animals to the same housing, light, food, water supply, cage rotation, etc. This NTP study placed all animals in a complex reverberation chamber that existed within a metal barrier that blocked all forms of electromagnetic radiation from entering—a Farraday cage. Thus it is entirely plausible that electromagnetic exposures from wiring, ceiling fans, HVAC, or even technicians with phones in their pockets, could have affected control animals in those older studies causing this rare brain tumor and the handful of schwannomas of the heart found in the past in other controls. The fact that not a single one of the controls in this study developed these rare tumors tells us a great deal.

Why then, did brain tumors occur only in male rats? The sexes differ not only in hormones but in the ways that their DNA deals with poisons. In fact, rare precancerous abnormalities in the brain and heart were also reported in both sexes in the NTP study. For many cancer-causing agents, tumors are more common in males than in females—although in this instance, both males and females had significantly more cardiac abnormalities, pre-cancerous lesions, and malignant nerve tumors within and around their hearts.

Wait a minute. Some have claimed that these results are not a true positive, but a false one, that is to say—a false finding that wireless radiation increases cancer. By design, this study had a 97% chance of finding a true positive. Using a relatively small number of animals to study a very rare outcome, this study in fact, had a far greater chance of a falsely negative finding than of a falsely positive result.

Why then does the public know so little about the how cell phones and wireless technology impact our health? In 1994, findings that such radiation could prove a risk spawned an unusual and little-known sport—that of “war-games”—outlined in a memo from Motorola to their PR firm. That year when University of Washington scientists, Henry Lai and V.J. Singh, first showed that radiofrequency radiation (RFR) damaged brain cells in rats, they were subject to well-funded coordinated efforts to discredit their findings, their livelihood, and their integrity. Their university was asked to fire them and the journal editor where their work had been accepted was pressured to un-accept it. Similar disinformation efforts confronted the REFLEX project in 2004—a $15 million European Union multi-lab effort—after it also determined that cellphone radiation caused biological impacts on the brain.

Another paper from the NTP finding genotoxic impacts of wireless radiation is under peer-review at this time. The capacity of this radiation to open membranes is so well established that a number of technologies have been FDA approved to treat cancer relying on electroceuticals that use electromagnetic radiation at various powers, waveforms, and frequencies.

If ever there was a time to re-think our growing dependence on wireless in schools, cars, homes, and energy production, this is it. There is no other suspected cancer-causing agent to which we subject our elementary school students or place directly in front of the brain and eyes with virtual reality. It makes no sense to continue building out huge wireless systems until we have done a better job of putting the pieces of this puzzle together. This latest report from the NTP should give us all pause.

Belgium has banned cell phones for children. Over a dozen countries are curtailing wireless radiation especially for children. Reducing exposures will increase battery life, decrease demand for energy, and lower health risks. Concerted steps to reduce wireless radiation such as those recommended by the Israeli National Center for Non-Ionizing Radiation, France, the Indian Ministry of Health, and the Belgian government are in order now.

Governments have a moral obligation to protect citizens against risks that cannot otherwise be controlled. The epidemics of lung cancer today are evidence we waited far too long to control tobacco. To insist on proof of human harm now before taking steps to prevent future damage places all of us into an experiment without our consent, violating the Nuremberg Code.

Wireless computers positioned close to the body could expose the users to similar levels of radiation as mobile phones

22 June 2016 – “Omega News”

From : Stop Smart Meters! UK

Please see attached by Dr Sarah Starkey which shows some comparisons between cell phones and Wi-Fi devices.  Specifically in relation to dosage, it is not necessarily the router that we need to be most concerned about, but the handheld device, e.g. iPad.
Quote:
Average maximum SAR for a sample of 358 digital mobile phones is 1.02 W/Kg in 1g tissue
(sarvalues.com; adult); iPad maximum SAR on Wi-Fi is 1.19 W/Kg in 1g tissue (iPad Information
Guide; adult). Thus, wireless computers positioned close to the body could expose the users to
similar levels of radiation as mobile phones.
Dr Starkey’s calculations show that iPads can expose children to as much (if not more) radiation than cell phones, especially when considering usage on the lap.

My understanding is that iPads, unlike some cell phones (e.g. iPhone 5s), do not have the means to reduce power selectively based on proximity to the nearest router — they emit maximum power constantly.
I have included the 2B document referred to as well which compares with tobacco.

14 giugno 2016 – “www.terranuova.it”

Protestano i genitori anti wifi

15 maggio 2016 – “www.quotidianodipuglia.it”/Lecce, di Stefano Martella

Scuola digitale, il progetto cresce. Protestano i genitori anti wifi

———————————————————————

Children are not at higher risk from mobile phones?

Press Release

As the world’s radiation protection agency meets in Cape Town, scientists call for the retraction of

a study from a top industry researcher claiming that children are not at higher risk from mobile phones

May 9, 2016

The International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is a self-appointed body that sets the safety guidelines used by the World Health Organisation to cover all radiation from electrical and electronic apparatus, including power lines, smartphones, wifi, and telecoms masts.

ICNIRP is currently meeting in Cape Town to decide, among other things, whether there is any evidence that children are at higher risk from this radiation. ICNIRP has not revised its radiation safety guidelines since 1998, completely ignoring the vast proliferation of wireless technologies since then, including the widespread use of mobile phones by children.

As this international scientific workshop convenes, a call is being made for the retraction of a paper on children’s exposure to radiation, produced by one of the most prominent industry-associated researchers in this field, Professor “C-K” Chou, the former head of research at Motorola Laboratories. Chou is a well-known and controversial figure who has argued for decades that there is no danger from mobile phones, despite even his own research early in his career showing greatly elevated cancer rates in rats exposed to microwaves (he called this a “provocative” finding at the time).

However, a recent paper by Kenneth Foster and C-K Chou contains such obvious manipulation that open calls are being made by other scientists for this study to be retracted. Great concern has been raised about the exposure of children to mobile phone radiation; many news articles quote scientists saying that children’s heads absorb more of this radiation than do adults’ heads. Foster & Chou produced a scientific review paper in which they claim that the research does not show children absorbing more radiation.

A new analysis has shown their paper to be blatantly biased in its representation of the studies reviewed. We sincerely invite you to watch a short video (https://youtu.be/J5MMhm70lCY) featuring Dr Robert Morris, one of the scientists calling for this paper’s retraction, and see for yourself the obvious and clear bias of Foster & Chou in misrepresenting the scientific findings of the studies they quote. The findings are summarised in the table below, which shows a systematic error in Foster & Chou’s reporting of what the studies actually said; in fact, they completely invert the real findings. This is absolutely inexcusable for a review article. The authors are displaying more than simple bias; they are engaging in sustained and outright academic fraud.

This is far from being an isolated case. There are many studies that are widely quoted in the press regarding mobile phones and health that are known to be deliberately biased. The most notorious is the so-called Danish Cohort Study, which used data from the Danish Cancer Registry. The epidemiologist George Carlo, who was hired by the US wireless industry to research health risks, has revealed how these Danish researchers approached him for funding, openly saying that they could produce results that were favourable to industry. Carlo, who is also a lawyer, rejected their offer of rigged findings.

These researchers then obtained funding from the Danish telecoms industry and duly produced an oft-quoted study that found no association between cancer and mobile phone use for over 400,000 Danes. The sheer size of the study impressed many journalists, and this study is still often quoted in the media. Yet these researchers openly admit that they took themost-exposed group of mobile phone users – corporate users whose phone bills were paid by their companies – and classified them as “unexposed” to mobile phone radiation.

Correcting for this and other errors, Prof Michael Kundi of the Medical University of Vienna, demonstrated that the Danish study actually showed a clear increase in cancers with mobile phone use. Yet despitecalls from other top researchers to have this study retracted, it is still often quoted in the media as showing that mobile phones are safe.

The authoritative publication Microwave News has demonstrated that nearly all the studies that claim to find that mobile phones are safe were funded by industry; and that the “balance of scientific probabilities” is completely skewed by a host of industry-funded studies that are given undue weight by bodies such as ICNIRP. Studies that do find problems are either completely ignored or else are subjected to minute criticism that is never given to studies that report no health effects.

If a paper does report a clear health hazard, there are immediate calls for it to be replicated, even when this is essentially impossible. In one example, researchers measured the exposure to magnetic fields of pregnant women, and correlated this with asthma rates in their children 13 years later. They found a 250% increase in asthma in children whose mothers had a high exposure during pregnancy. Industry immediately called for a “replication” of this unique experiment, despite the fact that it would take another 13 years to complete and would be conducted in a completely different radiation environment.

As ICNIRP meets to decide the radiation exposure of most of the world, we encourage journalists to look at the reality behind the platitudes about mobile phones, wifi, and telecoms towers being safe. The ICNIRP guidelines are only intended to prevent overheating within a six-minute period. This is totally inadequate for 24-hour exposure from masts and always-on wifi, or for children who talk for hours a day on mobile phones. There are well over ten thousand scientific papers showing a vast range of health problems and biological effects caused by electromagnetic radiation at “non-thermal” levels; and we invite you to investigate the clear evidence that there is direct fraud in the industry-backed research claiming that exposure to this radiation is safe.

Radiation Fries Children, Babies, Fetuses, YOU

23 May 2016 – “www.odwyerpr.com”, by

A concerned, capacity audience about 60 packed a conference room in New York yesterday to hear about and discuss the dangers of Wi-Fi and other radiation. Biggest victims are children, babies and fetuses.

Camilla Rees, founder of Electromagneticheath.org, based in Iowa, told the Left Forum that the “industrial-strength 5GHz routers commonly found in schools are designed to go through cement, brick and to cover the campus.”

Camilla Rees
Camilla Rees

They’re higher wattage and configured to be able to serve hundreds of users simultaneously, she said. Presentations included one by babysafeproject.org. Its warnings were similar to the ones expressed on the panel about children and babies May 3 in Baltimore featuring Devra Davis and other EMF health advocates.

Left ForumAnother paper on the subject of EMF dangers to babies and children is byBostonParentsPaper.com.
Rees, a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Columbia University and the Georgetown Graduate School of Business Administration, has written a 54-part description of EMF dangers and possible solutions that is the most comprehensive overview of the dangers of EMF.

New York Apartment Dwellers at Risk

New Yorkers and others should pay close attention to Rees since Time Warner, Comcast, Cablevision and other cable suppliers are forcing new 5GHz routers on unsuspecting customers, this writer included.

Apprised of this new danger (radiation pulsing 24/7 billions of times a second), we contacted Time Warner and had them turn off the 5GHz and 2Ghz lights on the router. Other customers of the cable companies should do the same.

A technician came to our home and found high levels of radiation throughout the apartment and particularly near windows. The highest apartments get the most radiation from hundreds of cell towers atop apartment buildings. The New York real estate industry must look into this problem.

The technician immediately shut down Bluetooth on our MacBook and told us to get rid of the landline phone that had a wireless companion. An antenna on the landline part spewed radiation 24/7 and was the same as a wireless phone.

Documentary on israel's PR War in the U.S.Left Forum Blasted Corporate Interests

The session on dangers of pulsed radiation was loaded with attacks on corporate players and their alleged allies in the government, echoing the theme of the conference, “Rage Rebellion Revolution; Organizing Our Power.” Nearly 5,000 attended the three-day conference at the John Jay Criminal College.

Wi-Fi and computer technology, both with dangerous aspects, permeate school, libraries and public government which have made a huge financial and intellectual commitment to their use and don’t want to walk away from it, panelists said. Doing so would be “biting the corporate hand” that helped finance so much of the technology, they noted.

The more than 130 films and VNRs featured in 36-page catalog distributed at the conference by Media Education Foundation include such titles as Pack of Lies: the Advertising of Tobacco; How Racism Harms White America; Big Bucks, Big Pharma; Rich Media, Poor Democracy; Constructing Public Opinion (How politicians and the media misrepresent the public); The Myth of Liberal Media; Shop ‘Til You Drop, The Crisis of Consumerism; How to Start a Revolution; Fire in the Blood, a Tale of Medicine Monopoly & Malice; Google & the World Brain, the Audacious Attempt to Control Human Knowledge; Agrofuels, Starving People, Fueling Greed; Life in Occupied Palestine; Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land; Occupation 101 (Israeli-Palestinian Conflict).

MEF, was selling for $20 a DVD titled “The Occupation of the American Mind: Israel’s Public Relations War in the U.S.,” narrated by Roger Waters.

Also offered is the film, “The War Around Us,” by Abdallah Omeish, which tells the story of two journalists who were present during the bombardment of Gaza in 2008-09.

The catalog lists seven items telling the Palestinian side of the conflict but none telling the Israeli side.

Rise in Autism Found

There has been an “explosion in autism” in children in Canada that appears to mirror the explosion in wireless technology, says Jerry Flynn, retired captain in the Canadian Army who supervised its warfare using electromagnetic radiation.

Flynn earlier this month asked for an investigation of government authorities in Canada by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, saying the authorities were “criminally negligent” in failing to remove Wi-Fi and other radiation sources from schools, hospitals, libraries and other public facilities.

In the U.S., he wrote May 22 to Prime Minister Justine Trudeau and members of the Canadian Parliament, the rate of autism in children was one in 25,000.

In 1970, he said, it had climbed to one in 2,500; in 2000, one in 150, in 2004, one in 125, in 2008, one in 88, and in 2013, one in 50 and one in 27 in populated cities.

Quoted are statistics compiled by the Australian ADHD Foundation.

Government Opts Out

Asks Flynn: “Why does no one connect today’s tragic explosion in Autism in children with the comparable explosion in wireless technology? Each and every wireless device emits hazardous ‘low-level, pulsed, non-thermal radio/microwave frequency radiation.’”

He includes cellphones, wireless utility meters, cordless phones, GPS satellites and cellphone towers. They never “shut off,” he said.

“Tragically,” he said, “for all Canadians, the Government of Canada refuses any dialogue whatsoever on pulsed non-thermal wireless radiation, which scientists have long linked to Autism and a host of other neurological diseases, as well as diseases of the central nervous system and immune system.”

Parents fight against mobile phone mast near school

11 May 2016 – “UTV Ireland”, by the Staff in Dublin

Concerned parents and local residents are protesting against plans to erect a mobile phone mast near a primary school in south Dublin

Parents protest.
Parents and locals held a protest on Wednesday. Stop Vodafone Mast at IADT Committee

Vodafone have applied for planning permission to install a mast on the roof of Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) which is close to Monkstown Educate Together National School in Dublin.

A campaign against the plan has been launched by opposing parents and locals, including folk singer Christy Moore, who say they will “use every legal means possible” to get the mobile phone company to relocate the mast.

The parents’ group claim the mast will put 438 young children, teachers and the wider parent community at risk as the school “falls within the beam of maximum intensity”.

Spokesperson for the group Brian Healy explained: “There is mounting scientific evidence across many countries and agencies with regard to the safe placement of masts away from schools, with countries such as New Zealand, Sweden, Italy, Australia and parts of the US banning them from such areas.

“Questions have been raised whether placing mobile phone towers so close to a school where young children, and indeed their teachers, are continuously present for at least seven hours-a-day, is putting them in potential danger.

“It was once felt that the effects of cigarette smoking and second-hand smoke exposure was inconclusive. The consequences are now well known – too late for many children exposed to second-hand smoke.”

https://youtu.be/QhHSCs_E6lE

A report from the Department of Environment conducted in 2007 concluded that the majority scientific opinion was that “no adverse short or long-term effects have been demonstrated from exposure to electromagnetic fields at levels below the limits recommended by the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).”

However the parents say the ICNIRP guidelines are “out of date” and do not cover “long-term low-level exposure to microwaves” which they claim can cause DNA damage potentially leading to cancers; signal pulsing causing or worsening epilepsy; tinnitus and hearing problems; and headaches.

In response to the concerns, a spokesperson for Vodafone Ireland said: “We would like to assure you that we adhere to all planning and regulation guidelines and have followed due process in relation to Monkstown Educate Together National School at all stages of the planning process, including consultation with the school.

“Dun Laoghaire Rathdown initially granted the planning application and we will continue to work closely with the authorities in relation to the site.

“The need for the mast came about because of an increase in demand, both from local businesses and new housing developments.

“An increase in coverage was found to be needed to ensure that all local customers could access the services they rely on.”

The parents’ group have submitted an appeal to An Bord Pleanála over planning permission for the mast, and are calling on the government to strengthen existing legislation.

Why die for Wi-Fi? My child did – will yours?
by Debra Fry, posted 3 May 2016

On the 11th of June 2015, my 15 year old daughter, Jenny Fry was found by me, hanged in woods near our home in Oxfordshire, UK .

She was utterly exhausted; instead of receiving sympathy and understanding, she was battling the school for giving her detentions and refusing to acknowledge her difficulty around wifi, which had a profound effect on her ability to concentrate, write, explain things, and function in school.

I went into the school on several occassions to try to educate them on the health dangers to all pupils and staff, as well as the effect it was having on Jenny, but I was told that for as many reports that there are showing harm, there are as many available online saying that wifi is safe (although I have not seen any saying this).

The head teacher did say he would double check; I left him a list of information – reports and websites – to check. He also said he could not turn off the wifi for one child; I said it was not just for Jenny, but it would be healthier for everyone.

I even had a heated exchange with a member of staff, saying that Jenny is allergic to wifi.

It’s the same as a peanut allergy – you would not leave peanuts all around the school, so why expose her to wifi? Knowing that it will cause her problems?

They refused to let me measure with my electrosmog meter to find safer, more comfortable areas for Jenny to work in. And they told me off for taking readings at a parents’ evening.

I also contacted the Governors of the school, the local Education Department, the Radiation Advisor used by them, the Chief Scientific Officer, the Chief Medical Officer, the National Radiological Protection board, the Health Protection Agency, Public Health England, and my MP and GPs.

Jenny was an intelligent child who had a great thirst for knowledge, and her education was very important to her. She wanted to put it to good use, and somehow help humanity, as a doctor, exploring the world.

At age 6, she wanted to know how the moon stays up in the sky, and everything about the universe.

She flew through school with no problems until the wifi was fitted in Chipping Norton senior school in November 2012, and for a few months at home.

Jenny was very popular and liked by her peers, and befriended children of all abilities and backgrounds.

She was highly organised and self motivated. She did not have to be asked to do her homework .

She was my wounderful, beautiful, thriving, happy, healthy, helpful, caring, sensitive daughter, until she was exposed to wifi, which emits pulsing microwave radiation, when her physical health began to crumble.

Her death was totally preventable, if I had been listened to earlier.

Her symptoms : headaches, fatigue, joint pains, sleep problems, skin irritation, rash, anaemia, menstrual cycle disruption, heart flutters, difficulty concentrating, temperature control, urine urgency, overwhelming sense of needing to leave some classrooms at school.

She had a really bad nose bleed at home while she was doing home work on her wifi laptop; she came down stairs saying “please help me, I cannot stop my nose bleeding and I have not knocked it.” As a nurse, even I had a job to stop it.

We were both so concerned that I looked up nosebleed / wifi online, and was totally shocked at what I found; the more I researched, the more evidence I found from doctors and scientists saying that wifi was not safe for children, just as mobile phones were not.

I was in the back garden on a sunny day, trying to find a school without wifi and continuing my research into the health effects, using a wifi laptop, when I realised – wow this technology is amazing; it’s coming through brick walls, just like xrays.

This was the moment I realised how dangerous this stuff could be. But at the time I thought that I was trying to save her from future cancer, future fertility problems, as well as the list of symptoms above.

We immediately switched off the wifi at home and fitted ethernet cables, which helped Jenny to sleep, and helped some of her symptoms to go or improve. However, at school, some would return, or be triggered and exacerbated by their Rukus Zoneflex 7982 wifi.

I was also unknowingly affected by the wifi, having a racing heart, sharp pains in my eyes, and tinnitus, which I had just put down to my age, only to be shocked when I realised they had all gone after we had switched the wifi off for Jenny.

I felt so energised, as it confirmed my diagnosis was right for Jenny – having previously tried new lined curtains, a new mattress, visits to GPs and dentists, but all to no avail.

I could not find a school without wifi. I offered to let her stay and work at home, but she was in the middle of her GCSEs, and wanted to be with her friends.

So I tried again to get the wifi switched off at her school, but although I was now being listened to by someone in high office, it was too late for Jenny.

I miss Jenny everyday, and will spend the rest of my life trying to get justice for her, and campaigning to raise awareness of the health hazards from wifi / microwave radiation exposure, which should never have been put anywhere near our children.

I hope to help her to achieve her dreams of helping humanity, by telling her tragic – but totally preventable – story.

So please join the fight to protect our remaining precious children from wifi – before its too late. Prevention is better than cure.

How? Reduce the tsunami of wifi invading their lives. Switch off wifi in schools, homes and hospitals, and provide wired ethernet access to the internet.
